“At Manchester United, its common for small things to become more important than at other clubs”
Manchester United will make the trip to the Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich tonight in their first game in the Champions League since the last 16 defeat to Atletico Madrid in 2021. Its been a scathing few weeks for Manchester United off the pitch, but Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel has said that this has become a normality in the past few years. He said in his press conference yesterday that he believes that it is common for small things to become important at Manchester United and that “there’s always a lot of noise” coming from ex-players and most recently former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He also brought up the fact that the legacy of Sir Alex Ferguson can create an enormous amount of pressure and expectations that Manchester United fans cannot afford to believe in at this moment in time. This will no doubt put fire into the belly of Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag who is attempting to ride this wave of negativity in the best way that he can, to continue to try and work with the players at his disposal. Ten Hag confirmed in his press conference yesterday that new summer signing Mason Mount will not be available to face Bayern this evening as he is still suffering with an injury sustained at the start of the season. He also confirmed that Harry Maguire had complaints about an injury during training two days ago and has not travelled with the squad. He was also asked if he regrets not bringing Harry Kane to the club during the summer to which he responded that he has no doubts that new signing Rasmus Højlund will end up making a huge impact to the team in time.
